We grow pumpkins that can be used for food or decorative purposes.
Pumpkins are very good for making
- soups,
- pies,
- and breads.
You can eat your Pumpkin seeds. Roast the seeds to taste and you’ll have a wonderful snack. Also, pumpkin flowers are edible.
Pumpkins originated in Central America. In early colonial times, pumpkins were used as an ingredient for the crust of pies, not the filling. Pumpkins were once recommended for removing freckles and curing snake bites.
Pumpkins are commonly referred to as a vegetable, but botanically speaking pumpkins are fruit.
Availability
Pumpkins are available from mid-September to early November.
